Zarema Musaeva

In January 2022, Zarema Musaeva was abducted from her home in Nizhny Novgorod and forcibly taken to Chechnya, where she was accused of “using violence against a government official” and “fraud.” Musaeva was subjected to ill-treatment in prison, which led to a deterioration in her health. In 2023, she was sentenced to four years and nine months in a penal colony. The day after Musaeva's abduction, Kadyrov threatened the Yangulbaev family with reprisals, later reiterating these threats in a video message. High-ranking Chechen security officials and government figures joined in making similar threats. A rally was held in central Grozny against the Yangulbaev family, during which participants burned, stomped on, and tore up their portraits.
