Andrei Trofimov

An activist from Moscow, born in 1966. A veteran of the democratic movement and defender of the White House in 1991.

He was arrested in the spring of 2022, accused of spreading 'fake news about the army,' calling for 'extremism', and 'preparing to participate in an armed group.' In the fall of 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in a high-security penal colony, followed by one and a half years of restrictions on freedom. The trial was held behind closed doors, so his final statement became public only thanks to a French artist who corresponded with the political prisoner.

Your Honor, everything the prosecution says I wrote online is true. I did everything correctly, I plead not guilty, and I do not repent. I publicly justify, ardently approve of, and support the bombing of the Crimean Bridge in the autumn of 2022 and the attacks by Ukrainian drones on the Kremlin and other targets in Moscow and the Moscow region in May 2023. Because Ukraine is a victim of aggression from Russia, and it has the right to retaliate against the military facilities of the aggressor country. And for myself, I demand the maximum sentence. Because I despise you. I will not share this land or state with you. Since I cannot leave for Ukraine now, lock me up in prison forever.
